What is Butane Torch?

A butane torch is a gadget used to heat, burn or melt different materials. It uses butane as fuel. The gas is pressurized inside an aluminum tank. By turning a knob, the user controls the butane flow coming out from the nozzle.

To turn on the torch, you only need to press a button just behind the nozzle. The butane valve shouldn’t be fully open, to avoid sudden flares and fire balls.

The flame temperature of a butane torch can exceed 1400ºC. For this reason, you can also use butane torches for welding copper or aluminum. For these purposes, you need a high butane pressure to have a strong flame.

Reasons & Solutions of Butane Torch Weak Flame

There are two main reasons for weak flames on butane torches. The first one is the lack of butane. To solve this issue, you just need to refill your torch. To do so, just follow these steps:

  1. First of all, remove the plastic cap that covers the nozzle of the butane refill canister.
  2. Then, insert the nozzle of the butane refill canister inside the hole on the base of the torch.
  3. After that, push the nozzle against the hole in vertical position to refill the tank.
  4. Remove the nozzle when the gas starts to liquefy around the hole.

The second possible reason for weak flames on butane torches is a clogged nozzle. In this case, you have to remove all debris accumulated inside the nozzle. To do so, just follow these steps:

  1. First of all, dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol.
  2. Then, insert the cotton swab into the nozzle of your butane torch. Remove all accumulated debris with circular movements. If the cotton swab gets too dirty, use a new one.
  3. Repeat the process until all the residues inside the nozzle are removed. If there’s something big stuck inside the nozzle, you can tap the nozzle on your hand to eject it.
